I've got a line on one locally for ~$1000 (remember this is the san francisco bay area so prices are relative to that).

What goes bad on them? This one's an 89 w/ 160K miles. The seller indicate's it's on decent shape visually and mechanically "for it's age" which is what worries me.

I know... a bit of a change in directly but I've always liked these monsters. What engine/tranny options did these behemoth's come with? How upgradeable are they and what should be upgraded to make it a moderate trail capable rig (not for the con or running 44's)

I'm sure mileage aint great but I'm only driving 8 miles roundtrip to work so I'm not too worried about mileage but I'm thinking this could also be a great tow rig.
