For one I have to say bottoms up to jroc for takin' care of his T ...and 2 this thread cracks me up. I am here to spread the word on these jerkys.
So do standard labor rates apply at Jroc's garage, I mean yard service?

Body Damage is Cool

You'll only get 2, maybe 3 hours out of him at that rate... He'll be schnockered after that.

Great job Jroc... Glad it worked out for ya. I too am in disbelief that they honestly think you'd bring your rig back to 'em, even for an oil change.

I spent $917 in labor to have my gears setup at the local Stealership they replaced all kinds of parts that "needed" to be done, they charged me for 16.60 hours on the gears, isnt that a little too much for setting up the gears???

Most of us take our stuff to a performance shop to be set up, not the dealer. Would be interesting to know what the book time is on it.

SAY JROC-- I take it you also sent this incident to the Regional folks over these guys? You can find their addy at www.toyota.com. Also ref. your threads. Screw that bunch. You might be changing from a carpenter to a service manager.

I WILL NOT LET ANYONE WORK ON MY TRUCK. Every shop is worthless and a ripoff toyota engines are way to easy to work on. Just buy a shop manual and call it good. Knowone will ever touch my truck but me.

Which is all fine and well if you have a place to work on it when it's -50 and you don't need specialty tools.

And "easy" is all relative - I know where to stop when it comes to working on my truck (which isn't all that far), but I try to be informed. And you have to have the time and tools - I work full time and have a wife, 3 kids, and hobbies. So, I make a choice to let someone else work on the truck, which involves elements of risk and trust.

We've been burned by the stealership several times and then there are the times we *suspect* we've been burned - there always seems to be something else wrong...
 • the oil change with no oil (first oil change on my wife's new van - they gave us a coupon for a free oil change...I do them all now)
 • the water pump that was bad when they changed the timing belt (should have seen the face when I told them that was covered by their used car warranty)
 • the leak at the plugs below the valve cover gaskets - my independent mechanic says they should have replaced them when they did the valve cover gaskets, but the dealer says no and that's not under their warranty...
 • and on and on...

That's probably typical and not anywhere as bad as Jroc's most recent episode. The only reason I want to go back is to buy that new Tacoma in a couple of years and for service that is *under warranty*.

I think I've found a good Toyota mechanic now. Where the dealer and another shop wanted to replace all the O2 and A/F sensors on the Sienna because of a CEL ("too lean" code) to the tune of $800, he said it was the MAF sensor that needed cleaning. Could have done that myself, but *he* came up with the diagnosis that I didn't find in the FSM or anywhere online and it was certainly worth the $80 to me. And he has *shown* me the source of the leaks on my T.
