I'm curious here....I'm gettin' about 16-17 mpg with mixed mountain(city) and freeway driving...but that is with me not pushing the gas past 1/4 throttle, at all, barely 1/8th throttle...once i start giving it more gas, it drops to the 14-13 maybe even 12 mpg range...now, what i want to know is:
1.) does my milage seem normal?
2.)what is everyone else's mileage out there?

Now, I have a "custom" high flow cat...lol....drilled airbox mod, k&n air filter, and a flex-a-lite black magic electric fan...everything else is stock....my vin says i have 4.56's, but my freeway rpms tell other wise, they act like i have 4.88's....im crusin at 3k rpms @70 mph....shouldnt i be around 2700 rpms if i had 4.56's?

Anyways, what im trying to say is....i wanna hear your MPG on your rig, perferably 4runners,but other vehicles are welcome as well....list all of your mods, re-gearing ect....
this should be interesting

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Vehicle - bone stock 2002 4runner SR5 4x4 auto with <60,000K miles

Avg - 17-18 mpg
Best - 20.5 mpg

Details:
I just did a trip from Park City, UT to Crested Butte, CO and got 20.4 mpg and 20.5 mpg on two different tanks - that shocked me. That drive is mostly 55-80 mph with some flat highway but also a lot of high speed mountain driving.

That is considerably better than the 17-18 mpg I usually get with my local driving (town, little highway, and often towing of a snowmobile up the mountain to the trail head).

I think my numbers are pretty good given the spec of 16-19 mpg (I think that is what it is) for the 3.4 V6. I am getting the same mileage that I got out of my 1993 22RE - but that thing was SLOW.

I never owned a 3.0, but your numbers sound ok to me. You should add the total mileage on your engine to your post. If you have 180K or something, I think you are doing pretty well. Certainly others do worse.

I'm getting around 17 mpg around town and 19-20 on the highway with my 88 3.0 5 speed with 32" tires and 2-1/4" cat-back exhaust. Oh yeah, 142K original miles on untouched engine(other than timing belt). And it still has the original cat which I want to replace.

Mine has had issues since I bought it: 1984 4 cylinder with 40k on engine, new carb and fuel pump and filte wtih a K/N. I'm getting 11-13 in the city. No one can figure out why. It's running waay ricch I know but no mechanic can seem to fix it. I'm going to try to lower the float leve. On the freeway I'm at 15-17 mpg.

You replace the AAP on that carb yet? IF your dipstick smells like fuel, you should.

Anywhere from 15 to 18.5 average mixed driving. Never checked it strictly for highway driving.
