Typically 17, but normally 15.5-18. The aerodynamics of my front bumper and tires don't allow me to get much above that.

...wow...i hust barely got 100 miles out of my last 1/2 tank of gas....thats about 10.5 MPG...geez...and i mean it when i say this, i'm not pushing the gas pedal past 1/8th throttle AT ALL....i've noticed my truck is running really rich...i live up in the mountains, so i know its normal to alrrady run rich up here, but its running richer then my brother's 93 3.0....i wonder why it could be running soo rich?

ya know..i just thought of somthing...i recently had to "gut" my cat....i really had to, this thing was like cement....clooged as clogged can get....could that have made my mileage go down? i felt a little bit more low end, and high end "pop" out of it afterwards...but 1.) why the heck is my truck running sooo rich? and 2.) would my cat being gutted in some way lower my mileage? come on EB, i know you got a couple of suggestions up yer' sleeve

>>>*There are several reasons why an engine can run rich. The basics are easy, airflow first, which means check the filters, all the usual.
If carbed, something is out of adjustment or leaking as the engine runs.
Computerized, if rich, then the system is simply doing what the sensors tell it to unless an injector is leaking.

More mileage is lost to drag than any other single thing, number one being tires.

Here is a simple example of what drag can do: When I was dragracing, I normally ran 7" wide tires on the rear of my six cylinder dragster, 28" diameter. Top speed in the traps was 151 MPH on a good day. But on a slick track I would switch to 11" wide, 28" tall with low resistance sidewalls. Top speed was 138 MPH even though the elapsed time would be about the same.
That was 13 MPH lost to drag, had mileage been figured in, the loss would have been very high.

*Something to think about when you cruise the highway with those big 35's under the rig.

I have been working on some items that can save on fuel, a couple of ideas already work, (the reports from the 261C & 268C cam profiles are pretty good, savings there are simply getting TO speed more easily since GPM tests show no change)..

But no matter what I come up with on an engine sitting on a test stand, there is no way to beat those great big tires, big square bumpers, tailgate up (sail..*LOL**) lights up on top, and all the toys folks want.

Here are the keys to mileage:

Tuning..

Lower the tailgate..

Tire pressure..(alignment)

Drag..(externals, tire size, etc..)

Weight...

Driving style...(You NEVER run with the foot to the floor, do you? *Me, either....)...*EB

well, i replaced the o2 sensor a couple of months ago...it was running rich then, and its running rich now....its a 3.0, so its fuel injected...i ran quite a bit of lucas fuel injector cleaner through her, it seemed like it smoothed out the idle @ cold start up a little bit...ya, all my filters are clean...i've drilled my airbox, a little more sirflow in her...got a k&n in there, its pretty clean...fuel filter is new ect... now, its a 4runner, so, cant lower the tail gate LOL....i know my alligment is off a little bit, gotta pull the wheel to the right a little bit when driving straght....also, im running 31x10.5's, would i notice any mileage increase by dropping down to 30x9's? another thing, i've got no external accesories like bumpers, lights ect...i HAD a CB antenna on top, but she got ripped off last time on the trail oops...last thing, how exactly do i *tune* a fuel injected vehicle? im good w/ carb's, can tune those all day, but i have never tunned a fuel injected car....

You can adjust the distributor timing to get the best power/mileage at a certain point. You can check the TPS to make sure it's withing specs, also check the coolant temp sensors and cold start injector to make sure it's not staying turned on. Clean the TB real good and make sure the idle air circuit isn't getting blocked. Clean the AFM "door" to make sure air is flowing smoothly past it as well. I put on a 2-1/4" cat-back so I'll check the numbers to see how much that helps. The stock pipe is less than 1-3/4 at some points so bigger cat-back pipes will help. I don't get on the highway very often so most of my driving is around town and under 50 mph but I'm getting 17 or better with my 88 5 speed.
