Getting the Wheeling Fever
Hello everyone.
I need a hitch for my 92 Amigo S, I was wondering if a hitch out of a 1st gen Rodeo would fit or bolt on to my amigo, I was thinking about going to a junk yard and see if there is any rodeos with a hitch,I remember seeing a couple a long time ago but I never thought about putting one until now. Also I was wondering if they came bolted on or welded from factory. I saw one at JC Witney for about $125 which I'll probably get in case the hitch out of a rodeo won't fit and if possible how difficult is it to take it off and put it on to my Amigo, or do you think it'll be easier to buy a new one.

Thanks for any responses

Salvador

The Amigo has four threaded holes in the center of the rear crossmember that accept a variety of bolt-on hitches. Dunno if the Rodeo has the same holes, but I know first-gen Troopers do>

If you can find a hitch that uses the holes, that will be your easiest install. You should also be able to install a receiver-style hitch that ties into the frame rails, but that is gonna be much more work than the simple bolt-on variety.

The 4 bolt patttern on the rear crossmember is the same as the 4 bolt pattern on pintle hitches, so if you always use a 2 inch hitch ball, some thing like this would work.

One other hitch option is on older Mitsubishi Montero's, which had something that looked like it would work well. So do H1 Hummers <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Other wise go to your local hitch store. On my old '90 Amigo, I got the hitch for $50, installation was about $10. Seemed worth it, so I could let them fight any rusty threaded bolts/holes. The hitch was a non receiver mount style, that was quite robust. 1/4 inch plate with 2 diagonal braces.

I've also seen receiver style hitches that bolt to that bolt pattern.

Nothing you should be towing with a 1st gen Amigo would require a big frame mount receiver style hitch. The crossmember mount style doesn't rattle like the receiver type, and will handle 2000 lb of trailer just fine.
