Getting the Wheeling Fever
I've exhausted all of my resources in my search for one small piece of info. I need to know what size tap to use to clean out the holes for the head bolts before re-assembly. and can I leave the throttle body attached to the head when removing the head?

If I can't fix it, it ain't broke.

I don't see a reason why you couldn't leave the TB on.

yes, you leave all that intake junk on until the head is removed.
also, it pays to have a good place to set the head in advance. Like a block of wood for the bottom of the head, but then that should be on something higher because the IAC is hanging down on one side and the exh. manif. is on the other.

You can always get a copper headgasket made, but it will cost.

I belive that Paesco(sp) makes them. For the life of me I cannot remember the correct spelling. Anybody who makes them can make one using a stock gasket as a template.

But...a Cu headgasket is most likely not a good idea for you. Read what Kary has to say here .

that's Paeco. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

they can also make such groovy things as aluminum underdrive crank pulleys for the 4Z's. there are a number of places that can do copper gaskets if you send them one in decent enough shape to copy. they can be reused too.

something else to consider if you are going to run high compression or boost is studding the block instead of using head bolts. seems like if you have a need for a copper hg, this is something to do in tandem.

Michael, Thanks for the link!

Pucci, Have you done the studding? Where can I find the kit? ARP?

This is a future mod to come, still waiting for the donor 2.6 motor.

no kit available, gotta buy in bulk & yep they're from ARP.

AU4.800-1LUB is the part number for the undercut studs - $7.70 ea
300-8337 pack of 10 nuts - $47.63.
200-8537 pack of 10 washers - $14.15.

haven't done it yet, but it's on the list. possibly soon, depending on how fast I can acquire & put together another head for the Trooper. I'll be sure to share whenever I do.
