Getting the Wheeling Fever

I have a 2000 TJ lifted four inches and 33 inch tires. I have had a problem with my stock steering since the day i lifted it. It sometimes death rattles between 40-50 but only when i am calmly driving down the road. if i accelerate or break quickly right as i feel it start it usually pulls out but other times it shakes me half to death not to mention scareing my girlfriend and dog. I replaced the trac bar with an adjustable one and it seemed to fix the problem for a while but now its back whats the deal with it? if i got an after market steering system, kinda like a solid tie rod that conects both wheels and then had a tie rod connecting the pitman arm would it help maybe a larger steering damper? i don't have a clue but i am short on cash so nothing too expensive please.

You need to find the looses suspension component. If the trac bar fixed it for a while, then it started up again, I bet the new trac bar has come loose. Veryify that EVERYTHING on the front and rear end is tight. Next time it death wobbles have someone stick there head out the window to see what the tires are doing.

I also just rotated the tires and it started doing it so could unbalanced tires be the problem?

When they go side to side, it means that the trac bar is loose or broken. The sole purpose of th trac bar is to locate the axle under the frame and keep it the axle from wobbleing back and forth. Check the bolts that mount it to the frame, check the tightness of the ball joint and that the ball joint has no play, and check the bolt holding the bar to the axle.

I've seen bad shocks, bad tie-rod ends, track bars, grosely unbalanced tires and busted belts in tires cause this problem. Not to say that this is your cause.... Just some thoughts. Could be something broken and could be something that is just loose.... In your directions for installing the lift, there better had been a disclosure or statement telling you to retighten everything after so many miles.... I had to retighten mine twice, so there could be something to consider there....

<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/patriot.gif" alt="" /> I was an ASE cert. in suspension. Death wobbles are actually pretty common on lifted vehicles. Side to side movement on the front tires could be a loose part, or maybe a stock bracket that has "egged" itself out. Usually you will tighten it up and it will fix itself for a little bit but it will always come back. The track bar would be the obvious 1st guess but ive seen other stearing parts cause this as well.
