supposed to be o2s lean or fuel metering? anyone had this if so what did you come up with.i know it does'nt always mean the o2 is bad.my exhaust is broke in 2 pretty far up, just under gas pedal. was curious if that could affect it? i did'nt think that would do it, but what do i know?feedback appreciated as always. thanks- mike

Roll Me Over
A broken tailpipe before the O2 sensor would lead to a lean condition because additional oxygen is entering the system at that point.

correct me if i'm wrong, but i was under the impression the o2 on this was up on the manifold? if so it's after it. if not, then it must be before it.

if your exhaust is broke around the gas pedal area then that's past the sensor, as it's threaded into the manifold before that.

pretty recently I got a code 44 - turns out the intake hose had worked itself off the MAF(this was during a wicked cold spell - extreme expansion?). the unmeasured air leaned it out & it went into limp mode.

check the rubber portions of your intake, especially around the 'accordian' section where it curves to meet the plastic tube. this can end up cracking & leaking.

Wait, there is a code clearing 'switch' per se behind the dash!?

no, the way it was explained to me is - every 90,000 miles the o2 light comes on no matter what. the switch is just for turning that off. disconnecting battery cleared any "stored" codes.after that any codes you get are active and need to be addressed. in my case i just purchased the vehicle and did this to start from scratch. generally i'm not that lucky, so i'm gonna take one while i can get it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> hth- mike <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

ps- in some vehicles the check engine light comes on every so many miles. i'm curious if anyone knows if 1st gen troopers do this as well, and if so is it reset the same way?

Need a Spot
I have a code 44 on my 91 trooper 2.8L v6.

I have replaced new MAF sensor and new O2 sensor. My O2 sensor location is on the exhaust pipe under the driver side (I'm not sure if this is the orginal location). I have an exhaust leak on both side after the headers. I have not fixed this becasue, I hate <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" /> taking off the exhaust system on a v6 <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

I belive the exhaust leak maybe the cause of my code 44. Is this due to fresh air being sucked in ?? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> ?? I thought exhaust would be pushed out if there was ever a leak.

What, Where, how did I get here again?
Hey guys....how do I get it in 4 wheel drive?

The O2 light comes on every 90,000 miles.
The check engine light does not do this at any set interval.

When the O2 light comes on, it does not trip a check engine light.

If you had a check engine light with a code, resetting the
O2 light did not fix your problem and your CEL will most
likely return.
