My 95 YJ has aftermarket wheels that causes the tread on the 31-10.50 tires to stick out past the body about 4 and a half inches, and about 1 and a half inches past the fender flares. My Jeep has a 3 inch body lift, and is driven daily to work. My question is, would going to stock wheels cause any problems such as turing over? My daily drive is 10 miles interstate, 10 miles curvy mountain blacktop, 6 miles rough, rocky, muddy mountain road. After 1 trip it is hard to tell what color the Jeep is due to the tires slinging mud every where. I would like to get by with washing it once a week instead of every other day. Thanks.

With stock wheels and 31X10.5 tires they will rub the springs a little bit at a full lock turn. I ran like that through 2 sets of tires, didn't hurt the springs, didn't hurt the tires.

As an alternative you could go with wheels the same width as what you have with less backspacing.

How about extended fender flares? Getting some 2" bigger than stock would prolly cost less than a new set of wheels.

Extended fender flairs will help some. BUT Jeeps simply are dirty rides when in dirty situations! Even with stock tires and wheels the little guys sling mud and dirt right up both sides.. Something we all live with.

Thanks for the replies. I have found a good deal in some stock wheels, and am more worried about changing the way my Jeep handles in curves. I dont drive fast, but I do drive some curvy mountain roads. Curious about the 3 inch body lift and stock wheels mounted with the 31-10-50 tires. I am very familiar with a stock CJ-5 and 10 inch tires. But the extra height and narrowing the overall width on my YJ concerns me. The mud really is a minor problem, but this job really has its share of it! Thanks again.

You aint lying. This is the only vehicle that I have owned that threw mud on its own windshield.

Gotta love it.

Body Damage is Cool
Okay, I have a 91 YJ with stock rims, a 3 inch over all lift with longer shackles and a 2.5 inch spring lift. I run 31X10.50's and all is basically okay.

The fact that you will get mud up on your own windshield is normal.

IT'S A JEEP THING.....

I would seriously go with stock rims that keep your 31X10.50's right around the edge of stock flairs. The only thing that you will need to do is adjust the factory bump stops. It will cost you a whopping $0.50 or less to do this. There is a thread under Jeep Tech FAQ that covers how to do this.... It really is simple and will keep your tires from rubbing on your springs!

91 Jeep Wrangler YJ, carpet, tires, trailer hitch. yea....

if you're worries about "turning over" throw some air shocks in there. my suspension is way too stiff, and it handles like a go cart. just air em' down to wheel.
