on the 4 cranks I looked at,
the 'nose' that the pulley butts into is a radiused edge, and only about 3/32" of metal actually connects- AFTER the pully's smushed into conformance with the (much harder) crank.

Which reminds me- I should go retorque mine soon, eh?
