I am looking for a new or used set of 2" Add a leafs for my 87 4Runner SR5. Can anyone tell me the cost and where I can purchase them? Does anyone have any out there for sale?

I was thinking about AALs, but now want to do the Chevy swap. I know I definitely would want the additional articulation if I still lived out west.

I got mine from 4wheelparts.com for around $35 with free shipping (order on the weekends). I believe they are pro comps and I got about 2" of lift (enough to cure the butt sag). I haven't had any flex issues, but my frame of reference may be off since I have IFS <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

Has the ride been affected?

The Rancho soft-ride AAL was somewhere like $140

I put the Rancho AAL's on one of my 4Runners and it rode fine, then I got the AAL's from JC Whitney(I forget which brand) for a different 4Runner and it rode a little stiff but not so bad that it bothered me. And that was with the hardtop removed all summer. Both will give you about 1.5-2" of lift. I had my local garage install both sets so I can't comment on how hard it was.

The Soft Rides are a 2-leaf set, one full length thin leaf and a second leaf that is shorter and thicker. Nice thing with the kit is you have several combinations available for adding the 2 extra leaves, either in place of existing leaves or adding to the existing leaves. This allows fine tuning of the lift and ride. What you want to avoid is the AAL that includes just one short, thick (and stiff) leaf. You'll get the lift you want but the ride will suffer. There are some fairly decent single leaf AALs that are not too thick, don't recall the brands. What you want to check is that if the AAL looks like an arched version of the overload leaf on the existing pack, it'll be very stiff.

Are you saying that a Chevy swap would be a better ride?? What Year and model Chevy springs are compatable with the 87 4runner? I just might go in that direction.....Thanks!

TheBandit just did the swap and it looks great (and he's got pictures).

The downside is that some welding is required (I don't weld, yet).

I've run a Trailmaster (i think) add a leaf for the past ... damn 6 years i guess. I acutally removed my overload spring and put the add a leaf in. Gave maybe an inch of lift. Combined w/ front torsion bar crank gave a good look. Flex is good too, took the bump stops off for even more. Had to get longer shocks it flexed so well. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />

But to answer your question, i got that at a local 4x4 shop. They were not that expensive.
