If the pump grenades it will send metal shards through the trans, cooler, torque converter, etc. Most places will just flush these parts but some feel the need to replace. Either way you are back on the road and that is what is important.

I was there when they dropped the pan on the transmission and there were big chunks of metal in there as big as a dime.
