I know that Jeep has come out with the 2005 Liberty CRD (Common-Rail Diesel) for us US buyers. It is great that there is another diesel addition to the available diesel vehicles you can buy here in the states. I received the brochure for the 2005 Jeep Liberty CRD about 2 months ago and had a question about something in it. Maybe someone who has the same brochure can help with this question. On the 2nd page Jeep writes "We offered our first diesel-powered Jeep vehicle in 1961." And at the bottom right of that page they give you a picture of that vehicle. It is a 1961 Jeep CJ-5 4x4. My question is are these Jeeps extremely rare and were they available in later years or just for 1961? What diesel engine was used for that 1961 model? Seems as one would be great as an off-road project. Just a part of Jeep history I don't know about and am interested in learning. I certainly don't have enough money to buy a brand new Liberty diesel now. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
