Hi, i'm new. I have a 83 pup na diesel.
I was surprised to get no results when searching for info on adding an aftermarket turbo to an isuzu na diesel.

I'm sure someone around here have done it. Any info available?

C223?

There are plenty of kits available for those, but it'll be cheaper and more rewarding if you piece it together yourself.

Keep the boost down and you should be fine. The factory turbo engines normally run lower compression to keep the peak compression at a sane level.

Need a Spot
You might need to replace the oil pump with the turbo model. I remember hearing that that is one of the differences between turbo and NA. This is for the C223T.

I'd suggest extreme caution in this endeavor.
The turbo'd C223 have totally different connection rods, an additional set of tubes to spray cooling oil on the bottom of the pistons and a few other reinforcements needed to accept the additional force derived from the turbo.
Slapping one on isn't going to work.
The standard C223 is a slow engine, but highly reliable. I have a Pup (LUV) {funny to see the puppyluv name I thought of that some time ago as well!}.
Ther are also issues with the fuel pump delivery.
Sorry to be a wet blanket but would not want to see you blow an engine up.
Eric,
VA

Am I better off thinking about a complete engine swap? I might have to blow up the engine first. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Are C223T's hard to come by? Can't find any on an initial search...

I saw one on e-bay yesterday. Search under isuzu diesel, or chevy luv.
Is your current engine not behaving itself?
I thought about putting a turbo on mine a few years ago until I researched the subject and decided to leave it alone.
I am in Northern VA.
You?

current engin is fine.
just want more power. and something to do.
I probably won't mess with it anytime soon. it only has 100k miles.

with 100K on it a good project woul dbe to change the timing belt. General wisdom is every 50K it should be done.
If it breaks when the engien is running the engie gets destroyed internally.
