It sounds like you clutch is not releasing. The symtoms you describe would be the same if you did not step on the clutch pedal, at least in the lower gears. If you can get some one to press the clutch pedal, get under the Sportage with a flashlight and see if the hydrolic servo is operating properly and inspect what you can, it does not sound like a major problem.



I would agree with this advice. But if you do decide to purchase a clutch/pressure plate make sure it includes a throwout bearing AND a pilot bearing. They are not the same thing. The throwout bearing mounts on the release fork. The pilot bearing is pressed into the recess in the flywheel and the tranny input shaft rides on it. You'll need a bearing puller to get it out. Reference the shop manual for details.
