Syncro would only affect one gear, unless they all decided to go at the same time (very unlikely). If you cannot get it into any gear without a massive crunching, then it is something common to all of the, ie clutch.

The voodoo magik of the ex-wife strikes again!!!!

Friend, as axe said, slow down, take a deep breath.
Appart from the cluch assy itself if the hyrdoliks or the release lever on the gearbox go down the pedal becomes very very smoth, almost without any resistance on the pedal. You say its like it was previous, so lets keep our fingers crossed fo a while.
You say that you can shift some gears in, 4th and fifth. Now combine this together with the reverse if you can put it, and together with the pink kind of noise you have heard, my mind goes to the shift lever that lost its adjystment for some reason ( the noise you heard may be a securing pin that broke), then the adjusting nut was loose and the travel of the lever in now not in accordance with what the gearbox needs.
This had happend to me in my other car, it was shifting to all the right-side gears only.

Can you put the truck in first when off and turn it on and get going? Can you do the same in secong and third? If you can, make sure you are not holding the lever. If the trans throws the lever out, you have a bad synchro. It all sounds to me like either the pressure plate, clutch, or throw out berring. Try the top experiment to see if it can be anything else. I have abused my trans missing gears here and there and I've never had any problems with the synchros.

It sounds like you clutch is not releasing. The symtoms you describe would be the same if you did not step on the clutch pedal, at least in the lower gears. If you can get some one to press the clutch pedal, get under the Sportage with a flashlight and see if the hydrolic servo is operating properly and inspect what you can, it does not sound like a major problem.

I would agree with this advice. But if you do decide to purchase a clutch/pressure plate make sure it includes a throwout bearing AND a pilot bearing. They are not the same thing. The throwout bearing mounts on the release fork. The pilot bearing is pressed into the recess in the flywheel and the tranny input shaft rides on it. You'll need a bearing puller to get it out. Reference the shop manual for details.

I went out and tried just what you told me to do. It takes off in all gears and does not push the selector out of gear. Just to take it a step farther, I pulled it out of gear and tried to put it into another gear and it wouldn't go. Just made that nasty grinding noise when the two gears wont mesh.

I looked around everything under there and all seems to be intact. The thing with the little boot on it is still riveted where it should be and the boot is not torn. I have noone here to push the clutch pedal for me but everything is intact. I also tried to pry those little black rubber caps off with a screw driver but I stopped because the only way they are comming off is to rip them off. They are half torn already from me trying to get them off. From starting it again today it almost seems like the clutch is getting worse. I really don't think it's the Tranny at all now. It has to be something with the clutch. From looking around the outside it (in my opinion) has to be something internally. Whats the next step?

If the piston in the clutch master cylinder is leaking, letting fluid by-pass the cups, it will not develope enough volume of flow to operate the clutch release. that why it takes some one to help you. It sounds as if your clutch disk may be fine but the release mechanism is not operating properly.

I had a lot of experience replacing blown clutches in my youth. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />
