OK, so a guy auctions off a brand new alternator and a starter for a 2.6 on Ebay. I bid and win them at $20.00 and $25.00. When I receive them I am pretty happy. They look new.

And then I go to put the starter on. Looks way different. This guy had a 2.6 in a front wheel drive car and I have the Montero.

Mine looks like the standard starter with the shaft held in place with a half round casting and a bushing in it. Regular Bendix drive, etc. His looks like a coarser gear, internal shaft back in the starter, no half round casting on the end, and no support bushing.

So, is the front wheel drive starter on a 2.6 different than a rear wheel drive starter on a 2.6?

Or did he have a completely different engine? Like a 2.2, or 2.5?

OK, now the alternator. It has the same mounting points, but is physically bigger. I am guessing this is a higher amperage output alternator. So, my plan is to use the alternator. Should I be concerned about wire sizes?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,
