Body Damage is Cool
Im considering buying a TRD supercharger, but concerned about reduced fuel efficiency, lean out, and pinging. Is it necessary to upgrade the fuel system with a URD kit, will i get worse gas mileage, etc. how much will this cost???

Your '97 should not have any issues that require the URD items.
If you can control your right foot your MPG shoul get better by 1 or 2 mpg.

So is the pinging really suttle with the S/C or is it pretty bad? Does anybody know what RPM range the lean out becomes a problem or is it just at WOT?

I figure the first tank of gas with a supercharger will go pretty fast and then ill have to settle down...

Getting the Wheeling Fever
If you use anything but premium fuel it will ping at high RPM, you must use super, i have not found any bad issues other than the fact that you cannot keep your foot out of the tank thus you burn a little more gas but once you get over the "newness" of the s/c you will see your gas mileage change by 1 mpg that is what i saw...

Jake~
Something else that may be a little problematic is your chip (ECU)... From what I understand, they don't work well with the s/c.

The ECU's in '97 and '98 T100's will work just fine with the S/C.
Also, the TRD headers do add some power and driveability.

I think 4xGeek is referring to an added pinging and lean out problem that could be associated with the combo of a S/C and a Jet Chip,

I talked to URD about it a little, all they suggested i do was order their 00001 kit which is close to a grand, too much spending for me.

Gear it down to 4.88's and you'll be fine. Get the SC and you'll be ok too just make sure to run the highest octane that you can. The point where you get the most ping is under 3k rpm and under load. You get used to it after a while and you just remember to downshift before you mash the gas pedal. I have had mine for about 2 years with no problems at all and I put it on a motor that had 214k and it now has 280K with no problems and a stock exhaust. I just took it down to Phoenix this past weekend to pick up an 800lb motorcycle and other then resetting the ECU when I was there it drove just as good as up here in Colorado but with a bit more power. It also did 90 mph going up all the mountains in Arizona.

BTW I get 16-18mpg with current setup

Hey Jake can you post a pic of your truck with the fiberglass fenders

Thnx
