On the 90-95 V6 Tcase, what do i torque the output flange nuts down to? I think the book says 87ft/lb. they call them.... "companion flanges". is that right? I just got new seals and nuts for the Tcase today.

Yep, about 90 ft.lbs. is what I use. Apply sealant to the splines, install the "companion" flange, install washer and nut, torque to spec, then stake the flange on the nut into the groove on the shaft to lock it in place. Companion flange is "Toyota-speak" for the transfer case output flange and the pinion flange. Between the "companion flanges" is where the "propellor shaft" (i.e. driveshaft) is attached.

well my flanges have seals under the nut to prevent the leaking. that's why it started to begin with. so using RTV isn't needed. Only problem is, the local dealer parts guys are IDIOTS. they always somehow sell me the wrong seal. and ***** my day up.

Never seen one with a seal under the nut, if so go for it. I use the RTV, trick I learned from Marlin, keeps gear oil from leaking out along the splines on the shaft and inside the flange.

I have seen the seal - I still used RTV.

10-4 on that. I have some left over Toyota RTV from the dealer. about 1/4 tube left from my girl's 00 trans pan job.

When I swapped flanges during my recent R151F upgrade I smeared RTV on the end of the splines where they protrude past the flang bore and on the back of the washer and nut. I didn't coat the whole length of the splines though. Is what I did sufficient to prevent gear lube leakage? -- Matt

well i replaced the output shaft seals and the seals that go inside the flanges. I also used TOYOTA dealer RTV (god that stuff is strong) on the flange's splines. I put a good amount in there the whole length of the splines too. so far dry as a bone. there is no excuse for 1 drop of oil to leak out of it.
