I have an 86 runner and am planning to put an aussie locker in the rear for sure however I was considering dong the same in the front at the same time. It it worth while I only off road in the sand and some hills etc with minimal use in the heavy mud (don't like breaking springs trying to get the thing out <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/scared.gif" alt="" />) I quess I really only want the truck to be capable on the old bush trails etc. Also this is my daily driver so I don't want to totally screw up the drivability. Thanks

if you dont do any real hard wheeling i would say dont do it. it you drive in 4wd on the road in the snow, definitly dont do it. it is REALLY hard to turn when the front is locked/welded. Also, ifs front ends do not hold up near as well as solid axles. Personally, I would not lock an ifs diff.

Yeah don't lock the front unless you get a selectable locker you can turn on and off when you need it.

Lockers on icy roads will send you into a ditch fast. They are great for getting you out of the ditch though. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Rear lockers are great for doing doughnuts in the parking lot.

I have ARBs F&R and I use the rear lockers 10 times more than the front. You pretty much have to go in a straight line with the front locked unless there is very little traction.

So is an LSD up front a useful tool? Yea I do see a lot of icy and snowy roads.

I find that lockers in the sand cause the tires to dig more when turning instead of floating on top.

When I was IFS I had a Tru-Trac LSD up front and it worked pretty good and I could fool it into fully locking up by brakeing and gassing at the same time. Worked well enough that I ran trails like the Con, 4-Dice and the Dusy!!! In the snow it was pretty transparent!!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" /> Unless you want to go ARB up front, I would get a Tru-Trac. I would not put a non-selectable in the front of an IFS rig. Just my opinion!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Was not me, I do not really know anything about Aussie lockers. For the type of wheeling I do I do not like "Lunch Box" type lockers, I perfer full carrier lockers or spools!!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

When I had a Lockrite rear and truetrac front, I found myself in the ditch on an icy road, because all four locked up when I didn't want them.

While an LSD is better than a full locker for icy roads, if you see ice as much as you probably do up there, I'd avoid both up front unless it's a fully selectable like an ARB.

I actually liked my IFS truck in the snow & ice when I ran a lockright up front and an ARB in the rear. Leave the ARB off and the front lockright *pulled* you wherever you wanted to go :p
