 49 CJ2A Disc Brake Conversion

Anybody have any pointers, I am putting Disc barkes on my CJ2A, and need to somehow put a bigger master cylinder on, any Ideas or experience?

Well, shouldn't be that hard. You are just taking the authanticity and tossing it in the trash though....
You could take one off of a heavier vehicle like a P/U or something from around that era.... Just would have to rig up the connecting rod to make sure that you could still hit the pedal and stop....

Personally I'd swap in hanging pedals from any '72 or newer CJ and go with a dual master cylinder on the firewall out of a '78 or newer CJ with front disc brakes. It's not a bolt on by any means, so possibilty all depends on your fabrication skills or willingness to pay for someone else to do it.
Safety goes up and you can also get rid of the cheesy clutch linkage at the same time.

Oh yeah! I remember the 2A real well.. After driving one you MUST go have your left shoe resoled! What a nightmare to stop! And the hydrolic fluid keeps evaporating out of the master... I would think it would be a major endevor. Maybe only SOME of the brake lines would be retained...maybe nothing. Hell you might have to make the back plates yourself? I've done the frame mount master upgrade for 4 wheel discs and I would never suggest doing it again due to the problems listed. The thru the floor pedal assys are a joke.
If you go with a Hydraulic clutch it save a bunch of linkage headaches too.
I just went TH350 on my flatty.

Thanks for all the pointers, My main hang up is the Master cylinder and Pedals, Sounds like there is no real easy way to do it.

I'm in the same boat as you right now bud. Getting close to having the $$$ to swap in my 44's, and am doing discs all around. Eventually I will switch to hanging pedals and get rid of that horrible linkage on the clutch, but when I do the swap, I'm going to throw a new master on there and see how it is. I drive my flatty as much as possible, and it's always an adventure...makes the drive fun <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />.
