Has anyone seen this yet? This company builds Bolt-On Portal boxes for anything with knuckles. The website says it has to be a Dana 60, but I don't thing that is the case. I read about it in the latest Four Wheeler Mag. It also gives you 8 1/4 inches of lift. I sure would like to get a set of these after I SAS! After you click on the link. Click on "Current Projects" or "Shop Vehicles". They both have pictures. Bolt-On Portals

Definitely cool, but that's a lot of leverage to put on kingpins. Kinda scary.

Saw them at SEMA -- very big and heavy. I worry about the vertical offset and leverage, even on a Dana 60. The gearbox itself might survive abuse, but I doubt the Dana 60 tube forks would, even with gusseting. Bolting this all outboard of the existing kingpins is going to amplify issues with respect to caster, camber, ackerman, scrub, and wrap (leverage, leverage, leverage).
I'm just a big ball of mixed emotions about these... I'm stoked to see that someone has finally brought this concept to market, but underwhelmed at the result.

I have been waiting for this idea to go into production. I saw a article a while back for some Austrailian company that was starting some R&D and even built a prototype set. The idea is cool but I see a few things wrong with these. As stated earlier in this thread the added stress on the kin pins. That deffinately looks like a lot of added leverage. Especialy with the gear reducition. Also if you are already running full width axles you would have a track width as wide as a semi with those. And last but not least they look really stupid on that Jeep. Can you say way too much lift. They would look better with maybe 2" lift springs and not the 6". Or maybe it just needs some 40" tires to even it out.

Would some sort of arched swaybars mounted low on these help distribute some of the stress? Or are they beyond that? They would have to be mounted with ball joints on the front.

Steering would probably be an issue with a sway bar. I'm not sure what you have in mind, but I can't picture it. By looking at them I can't deside what would put the most stress on them. It would either be the forward momentum coming to a stop or a jolt by hitting a rock. I guess that would be considerd lateral stress. Or being in an off camber situation and having a single portal support 80% of the weight of the vehicle while buried in between to rocks. I am not doubting the strenght of the portals but the strenght of those kin pins. They were not designed to bear that kind of leverage. I say just go across the big pond and pick up a couple of sets of true portal axles.

I was just thinking if you could get some extra support somehow attached to the lower part of these, they might be usable. My original thought was, What if they catch a rock? It would more than chip the paint.

I like the idea. I hate hitting my diff on stuff. If I had a lot of money I would give these a try, but then again if I had a lot of money I would try portal axles.
What is the price of these compared to portal axles?
