I guess the reason I skipped and IFS lift was after having an '80 model when I was younger that had 35's and 5-6" of lift, driving an IFS rig on the trail was disappointing. I cranked the t-bars, shaved the bumpstops, ect., but I coundn't keep 4 wheels on the ground. I know a locker makes all the difference, but it seemed to me that doing an SAS was a step I wanted to make before I put one in. Having a locker with IFS is still wheeling with IFS. Besides, I getta kick out of seeing how twisted up I can get it. And even without a locker, I can go places now that I had no chance of getting to before the swap, just because all the work isn't being done by the rear.
For those of you who have an IFS and dig it, more power to ya.

I cranked the t-bars... ...but I coundn't keep 4 wheels on the ground. Therein lies the problem... Didn't anyone ever teach you about the downside to cranking the bars... I want to eventully get a set of Frank's spacers, then crank the bars DOWN to stock again (plus 3" BL). This *should* allow the front to flex with the same ease as the rear. I will also cross-link a set of air shox at the same time, for a little leverage on the drooped side.

The solution isn't to remove your lockers. The solution to that problem is to remove yourself from Minnesota. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/lol.gif" alt="" />

I'm happy with my ifs.. There are many options out there to improve it. But my rig is a daily driver and I only wheel a few times a month which is why SAS'ing is out of the question. I'm realy impressed with how it performs off road and how well everything parts-wise has held up. What have I put into my IFS? 1.5" BJ spacers, Moog Idler & Pitman arm, ball joints, new CV boots, and a Downey IFS brace. Everything for around 300 bucks and I can wheel the hell out of it without worrying too much about failure.

i got agree with alot of what was said above. wheeling ifs will teach you how to wheel its part of the learning experience. i wheeled my ifs for along time. i did swap in a solid axle but only after years of running ifs. in the end i was going through alot of parts an the ifs brackets just wasnt holding up. i wheeled mine really hard though. for most people that wheel on the weekends it will work and quite well to.
BTW my setup was downey upper arms, downey 3inch springs, 33s, 4.88s an locked rear on a 94 truck. i went places alot of people thought i couldnt like that.

I also enjoy my IFS lift. Everyone I wheel with has SA or SAS'd rigs with 35's-37's, and I have little trouble keeping up with them. I can't hit every obstacle on the trail as they, but i can get through every trail. On the plus side I can run the logging roads to and from the trails much faster and much more comfortable then they can.
I too have wheeled my IFS on Fordyce(both stock and lifted) and Rubicon with little trouble from the IFS in the past. Unfortunately since these trails have gotten so torn up and crowded over the past 5 yrs, thast running IFS is getting to be less fun.
I don't ever plan to SAS my '90, it isn't worth it, I can buy and build an SA rig for about the same amount of money I would spend doing the SAS(since the only real option I would consider is running Landcruiser FJ80 front and rear axles).
More than tread lightly. Leave it like you were never there, nor anyone else. '90 X-cab 4.88's 33 BFG AT's, rr ARB, Headers, Ignition upgrade, cold air induction. '91 X-cab 5.29's 315's BFG MT's, rr ARB, custom bumper and flatbed
