Weld gears to gears and gears to carrier and anywhere else in there you can weld to something else.

here's one that I sold recently that held up just fine on and off road:

I feel there is a big misconception about welding as much as you possibly can. Welding is inadvertantly a heat treating process which can severely impact the strength of the components in the carrier. Welding here there and everywhere doesn't necessarily improve the strength of a welded diff.

I would say you should weld surgically, working slowly to allow heat disipation (weld, stop, weld, stop, etc). Do not quench the welds with water, as you can make them brittle. Allow them to air cool gradually.

DRM is right, gears to gears then side gears to carrier. It's best to nickel weld and peen the weld to de-stress it as it cools. Let the weld cool as slowly as possible. Here's a bad pic of one I did. Also it's best to do this with the carrier out of the third. If you leave it in you'll play hell trying to get all the chipped slag out.
