I'd still shoot for the coil wire if you could get at it. Again, tough but you could keep a wire in your frame or bumper pretty easy. I was trying it with a bit of the wire they use to tie up chain-link fence. Looks very possible. You need a good length of it and again, a good light but it looks doable. Not sure if this would damage the vehicle or not.

Stopping a car with a firearm:

Pistol:
Occupants (depending on situation)
Tires
Radiator (hot day in LA, speeding car - it won't stop instantly but it'll stop quick).

Rifle:
Occupants (again, depends on the situation)
Engine block or transmission (once the fluid is gone an auto will obviously not be movable)
Radiator

Pistol assumes a patrolman in an 'oh #@$' situation. Rifle assumes a marksman with at least some time to make a shot. LE and Military will have different views on the subject...

(/hijack)

You beat me to it, but a bullet to the block - pistol, rifle, it doesn't matter - will stop a car pretty damn fast.

I've alway had good luck with a coat hanger. No damage to the vehicle and easily stored in an inconspicuous spot under the truck.

Slimjims won't work on Monteros. There's a plate in the door frame above the lock rod. You'll pop the rod out of its clip, but you won't pop the lock.

I'd put a brick through my window before I took a chance of hurting my mill.

I'd like to see the expression on someone's face if he unplugged a coil wire with a coathanger.

You may be right. I was referring to Gen Is. That's all I have real experience with.

Gen I are easy to break into. A wire/hanger/hot dog stick thru the sliding window overlaping parts. I used a hot dog stick and punched the rear door lock to open.

Really hefty shot of CO2 into the intake, and I guarantee it quits. Have to keep the CO2 going until the engine stops rotating.

Push the hidden rear door lock button and climb inside.

Push the remote unlock button (or rewire the hidden rear door button).

A 38 and some 9mm won't bust an engine block reliably. A .357 or better will, almost every time, as will most any rifle slug.

BTW, moonshine runners used to carry a tank of pressurized oil/soapy water/bleach mix with spray nozzles on the back bumper to discourage pursuit. Hard to chase somebody if you keep knocking down trees...
