On the Highway it goes 50 in 5th at 2000 to 2500 rpm. What should it be doing.?

Down shift it into 4th or 3rd and floor it. It should accelerate decently, if it doesn't you might have a stopped up catalytic converter. If you do it at night, hold it floored for a while, then quickly slow down pull off the road open the hood and see if the exhuast manifold is glowing. If it won't accelerate any harder, and the manifold is glowing, your cat is plugged up probably.

94 that is a terrible answer! Which is it? If it is 2000 then at 2500 you should be doing 62mph! We all knew it would be somewhere around there but we would LIKE to like to know what it really is..
If 2000 then you are in the wrong gear. Go back to 4th at that speed.
In fact leave it in 4th and see how fast it will go in that gear.. See if you can get 5000 rpm out of it in that gear..

Yeah, honestly to me it sounds like you need to rev out the engine a little bit more.

I've honestly never takin it over 3000 rpm because floored in 5th, down hill it won't rev more then 3000, so i'm stuck at 55, but the engine and transmition don't seem to be working hard. To put it simpler if I had a 6th gear i think i would be able to reach at least 60. I checked the distributer cap today and one of the "nipples" was really rusty. Could that cause a loss of power?
Thanx

If it won't rev more than 3000 rpm in fifth gear what makes you think a sixth gear would help. That little four banger is made to rev. With you running it at these low rpms all you're doing is lugging it which is bad for the engine.

It sure sounds to me like your distributor is running out of advance. There's no reason why it should struggle to reach highway speed going downhill.

Any idea how much a gear swap would cost, if i were not to do it myself...?

Thats a good sign it's time for a tune up. Have you even looked at the spark plugs or under the distributor cap?
I have a cousin that was ready to replace an engine once when all it needed was a tune up and some gas in the tank. Check the simple things first. New gears won't help a clogged cat. do or have done a compression check. holy moly man. Check the cat like mentioned above.

I think you can have gears put in for 350 to 400 dollars per axel. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif" alt="" />
