From This topic.

I think it's really cool. I'd cut the top off of my Rodeo if it had a cage in a heartbeat, but that's just me.

I have thought about cutting off the top on my Trooper but came across two issues, the rear doors and the cost of a custom soft top. If you built your cage right, you really wouldn't need many support pieces for the top just some attachment points around the body. Ley us know what you end up doing.

any body got air troopers e mail addy?
really like the way he did his and would like some better pics. how he finished off the edges and stuff like that, or progress pics. like his cage as well but i would add a bit more to it as mine is a 4 door and i will keep it that way to haul the kids around the trails. so i will need a bit more protection for them.
thanks

I would assume by your e-mail addy that you are the same 'jeepdriver' that owns a Trooper on the PBB? If so, start HERE.

Body Damage is Cool
If he doesn't get back to you real soon, you can see the entire build up here in his photo albumn.

When you trim off the top be sure to add a flat cap across the seam at the top of the bed. Robert folded his over and filled it. It cracked from body flex. We will eventually get a chance to cap his off after I get the shop finished.
We bent the cage up ala: Laura Croft Tomb Raider style.

The cost of a soft top is the killer. Unless you know somebody with a heavy duty sewing machine.

Funny side note. With all the work I've got in Air Trooper, I've yet to ride in it. Jerry from Georgia got a ride!!! But me Nooooooo!

I'll be making my 86 Trooper into a pickup late this year (I hope). Gotta get Melissas Trooper going first.

Happy Cutting, But, I've got to ask!

Doesn't it get, like really cold where you live?????????

Roll Me Over
I too will more than likely head this route with my Rodeo and mostly for the simple reason, more body = more to damage. With the stage my Rodeo's at, i wanna be able to take a good flop, right it, and come out of the deal looking like a crushed tin can. Open are also makes the roll cage install much easier.

I'm probably looking at keeping the roof area over the driver and passenger and loosing everything else rearward. This will still offer some weather protection for the primary driver/passenger without the need of an expensive custom softtop.

I believe Doug (HighHonda over on PBB) has taken this very approach with his rodeo.
