When I was buying my new welder this week, I took the liberty of checking out the new welding shields. My old one is the standard shield with the stationary lens. The ones that I was looking at are auto darkening. Anyone have any input on these things? Is it alright to buy one of the cheaper ones? Or should I fork out the $200 for one of the expensive ones? Where is the best place to buy one?
Thanks,
Charles

Body Damage is Cool
With the auto-darkening ones, photocell i think it is called, spend the extra bucks on them. The standard, always-dark, ones, well, so long as their surface seems like it will hold up to abuse, you should be able to skimp a little on them.

Go with a standard flip with a big lense, or spend the money and go with a better auto darkener. Your eyes are worth more than a cheaper helmet. I loved my Miller autodarken I used at work!!!!
