I was wondering if anybody had a soft top for their 4runner? If so, are they worth it? Is there any kind of all weather seats I can put in my 4 runner for when I have my top off?

Body Damage is Cool
My little brother has a Camback softop, his only complaint is drilling all the snaps on the rails of the 4Runner, then if you want your hard top back on youve got to take them all off again, i think there is about 100 of those little snaps...

I think you're talking about the STC/Kayline top, the Canback tops come with a bolt-in rail that mounts in the factory top holes and then the snaps mount to the rail.

I have a Kayline, i love it for the summer, take the top off in literally seconds, and it's never leaked on me (and i don't even have the back tailgate strapped down).
I did the "roger brown" mod on the sides so they bolt in the factory locations, makes it quick and easy.
Doesnt' offer much security tho, and when it started getting cold, i put a hole throught the rear window... gotta get that fixed this year...

I had the Kayline/STC top on my old 87 and it was great. I did the same mod Roger Brown shows with making custom brackets to use the hardtop bolts to hold it on. I left the top down all summer and parked in my garage at night. I plan on getting one this summer for my current 88. I was trying to see if anybody else wants to buy one and see if we could get a group discount.

I would be interested in one for my '85 4 runner. I have a bikini top, but the full top would be nice when it rains. Plus it would keep my nieghbors cat from pissing all over the inside of my truck.

Depending on price I may be interested. Are you going to look at the Kayline or the CanBack?

I have a kayline from back when it was just kayline. It is about 6 years old. I run it from Easter weekend to the first snow. I love driving around with the sides and back rolled up MARLIN PERKINS WILD AMERICA STYLE!
I have to replace about 5 snaps/year and the back window has shrunk a bit. I haven't made my own snap rails roger brown style yet. It takes about 1 hour to switch from the hard top to the soft top. The snaps are in the way of the rail to the body screws so you have to take most of those out too.

Specialty Tops is still making 'em and they cost less than CANBACK tops. I think I paid $260 for mine brand new. There is a significant quality difference between the canback and the kayline.

Installed my Can-back on Sunday... Very nice... Only one design flaw, in that there is a 2" gap at the front rail, but that's minor and could be fixed if I wanted to.

Only problem is this: www.can-back.com <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />
