Taco stalls when warm #589072 04/05/05 07:20 AM

I have a '95 Tacoma 4X4 with the v6 auto tranny. It has 150,000 miles and has always run flawlessy. Recently when the truck is warm, it will stall sometimes when going back to idle. This can even happen on the freeway when braking hard. Very scary when towing at 70 mph and the truck stalls.

I cleaned the MAF sensor and that didn't solve the problem. The dealership tried to tell me that the intake valves where dirty and that I needed a new idle adjuster.

What do you guys think. I like to do my own repairs. Do I need to replace the MAF sensor or what do I need to do to resolve this? Thanks in advance.

does the check engine light come on while it's running?

No the check engine light never comes on. It usually idles great also. When it does stall, its very hard to start and keep running for awhile. And then its okay until I drop back to idle again. This only happens on long (more than 100 miles) trips.

Try cleaning the IAC and EGR. Either one will fubar your idle.

Getting the Wheeling Fever
Check for all the simple things first. you need air, fuel and spark to run so check your air cleaner, fuel filter, battery connections, spark plugs, plug wires and distributer. By process of elimination, you will get 'er done. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/evil.gif" alt="" />

Have you learned any more about the stalling? Our 96 tacoma 2 wheel drive, manual trans. does something similar so we are looking for solution also. Both o-2 sensors have been replaced, thought it was fixed, then it shut down again on freeway after traveling around 55 miles from home. So now trying to track down the endless switches and sensors that could be related. This truck has high mileage too, even trying to do own repairs, these little sensors and things are very expensive. Any suggestion appreciated.

Now its not doing it anymore. I have been on 3 long trips 200 miles at a time and it hasn't re appeared. On the long trips is usually when I have the prob.
