I want the OPTION of a front ARB locker later so I would need the V6 diff and axles right? and until then, i can plop in a front LSD to match my rear. (just need to figure out what year rear Starion LSD to grab from for the 91 V6 front diff) Then when I win the lottery I can plop in the ARB lockers front and rear. Right? I do want the 5.29s for better ratio and to help with bigger tires.

anyone know if a 91 auto would work? Whats the difference between the 91 auto and manual?

also - does anyone have the details regarding what steps are necessary to fit a V6 axle where a 4cyl axle was previously? cross member mods? should i grab the crossmember from the V6?

thanks,
dan

OK now i get it, kind of. So the bigger gears will help with the larger tires right? And what exactly does a locker do? sorry if i sound like an idiot, drivetrain and gears have never been something i'm up on. But i'm learning thks.

Ok, I have a question too.

Are the front differential P/Ns the same for 90 and 91?

I have often seen that aftermarket manufacturers specify a given year as the cutoff point but the year(s) previous are ok too.

Oh, yeah. DougH said something about the ARB being cheap.

I stand corrected!

Big Blue has informed me that "any year ('89' to '91' auto or stick) gen-1 V-6 front diff will work for the swap." As I mentioned to him, since ARB specifies only a '91 and up (I've had a vendor re-check on this specific point) I figured the safest thing to tell anyone else is just that. Would hate to tell them something on which I didn't have confirmation and have them spend a lot of money and/or effort for nothing.

Body Damage is Cool
just a quick question, what are the factory gear ratios in a gen 1 v6? Its a question that has come up a lot recently since a friend did a 4.88 swa in his yota.
also, jsut to clarify, The axle from a 1990 v6 would be just as good as a 91 in a 5.29 swap?

here's the application guide for the RD110:

I'll call Kary and find out just how sure he is that an automatic would work. I just located a 91 in a junkyard and I may go get the front end

I got my front arb for 680 plus shipping. I consider that cheap, and I work a crappy part time job and am paying for full time out of state tuition all by myself as well.

You can bust parts well in excess of 680 dollars offroad, hell you can total your whole truck. Just some food for thought.

The automatic should work... the difference is only in the genII's. But all 3.0 genI's will be the 8 inch.

I wheel with a rear welded Toy, a duel welded Sammi, and mix of welded jeeps. They all like it. Super cheap if you know someone. We dont have a lot of super traction rocks. Why not try it? If you dont like it, just get another carrier. I am going to have mine welded when I get the chance to take them out and let my friend work on them for a day or two.

I just want to tell you both good luck, and we're all counting on you.

It's all clear to me but I could see how it would throw someone with little experience for a loop.
