I'll bring the 35mm socket and the blue thread lock for the 4 spindle bolts, just in case you don't have those. I'm busy Tuesday evening.

Assuming that the ADD system is the same on the '01 and '02, I wouldn't think the axle shaft would turn as long as it's in 2wd. The only end of the axle rotating would be at the wheel. So I'd think you could tie the broken axle shaft up out of the way, since it wouldn't rotate. If it rotates while in 2wd, I don't know why. The ADD disconnects the drivers side from the passenger side axle.

I had assumed the driver's side would be making the passenger's axle spin. Well, that's great to know. That means there's no hurry at all for me to pull the axle out. All I need to do is secure it. Cool!

Mojo, we'll let you know when we do it. Sounds like we're going to have a regular axle clinic!

I'd join too, but 5 guys under a 4Runner is not a good idea!

I'll talk to Scott, since it'll be his garage. (My guess is he'll be more than happy to have us over.)

I'll be happy to host another garage workshop. I'll take pictures for a write-up also.

Okay, I just talked to the CarQuest near my house. They'll have the axle for me tonight. (I'll probably have Donna pick it up for me during the day tomorrow.) Jeff said he can't do it Tuesday. I have church Thrusday and Friday (holy week, you know). So I'm open for Wednesday or Saturday.

By the way, the guy at CarQuest told me it'll be $200, but that they'll give me $120 back if I give them the old axle when I'm done. I told him that the CV was destroyed, but he told me that shouldn't be a problem.

Also, his catalog listed the axle as going thorugh model year 2000. Since I have a 2001, I called the Toyota dealer to confirm that the axle didn't change in model year 2001. They told me the axle is part number 43430-35030 and goes 1995 thru 2002, so I'm okay. Incidently, they charge $442 for it. What a difference!

I just tack-welded mine back together and pretended nothing happened. I hope you don't mind that the new axle won't match your old one. The boots are different (less fins I think) and the axle shaft has a green protective sticker on it.

I don't think a full tech article on it is necessary... it's a rather simple procedure. You guys should pick up some beer so you have something to do with all that time afterwards.
