yes I searched, just want to make sure

2nd gen trooper 12 bolt is 62" WMS-WMS correct? I'd like to use one of those and a d44 front about 1-2" wider. (I know an FJ80 axle would be right on, but they are too hard to find and too $$$)

I've seen that the waggy 44's are 61.5". Close but not perfect. I like that the Jeep stuff is SUA (I'm keepin it low) but I'd rather not have to use spacers to get the width I want. There was some talk of a 64" widetrack FSJ d44--any confirmation of what year/model?

I'm thinking of just getting a full width dodge or chevy d44/10 bolt (easy to find, usually cheap) and shortening it and using a waggy shaft. That would put me in the 63-64" area.

What a minute, just had an idea What about a 61.5" waggy d44 with the 8 lug outers? Don't they add about 3" total width? I'd have to figure out a way to convert the rear to 8 lug, tho...

TIA

Paul

my numbers for the 2nd gen show between 61"-63" depending on whether or not you had factory fender flares. this is just what i have collected, no 1st hand knowledge there.

be careful here, you'll open up a can of worms with this discussion....

but i'll tell you what i believe... there is such thing a wide track D44. I've never seen one on a waggy, and don't believe they ever came on them. IIRC, there were only on option of the 2dr FSJ cherokee. They are much rarer than the short track (61.5") D44 found on waggys.

doing so would give you waggy length (61.5")... why not just start off with the waggy axle if you're going to shorten it to use its shafts. this wont gain you anything.

That would put me in the 63-64" area.

I'm failing to see how.

I'm pretty sure they don't give you anything, and if they do, its not 3". I have a set of both hubs at home and can very for you.

I meant shortening one side. I need to go back through some old threads but I remember seeing some tech about shortening the short side on a gm and using a waggy short side shaft. I'll do a little digging and post up links on the 6 to 8 lug thing too.

thanks for the info

Paul

edit: it was the long side shaft. I'm also seeing differing opinions about 8 lug outers and width.

I would stay away from a gm10bolt unless you are planning on running full hydro steer. There are just not many steering options since "flat tops" aren't present to use to setup a cross-over steering arrangment.

You can swap D44 parts(I think-pretty sure) but then you'd have to find a D44 to get both flattop knuckles off of and machine the passenger side to accept bolt on arms.

This is an option if you can't find the "correct" drop you need.

Just thought I'd throw that out.

If I'm wrong,I'll be corrected

Then you'll have to pay particular attention to your diff offset and making sure it stay relatively inline with your front tcase output. shortening just one side of the axle will dramatically change this.

Paul, after i talked to you about the fj60 axle, i checked out car-part on fj60 housings and you can get them for around 150 i beleive. then just build it up with mini truck stuff if its all the same. just another idea to confuse you with

my sas swap is under way, i'm using a BJ60 front axle. seems pretty beefy. going to have the birfs done though, there's a guy locally who "smurfs" them.

good luck with it.

I have read a lot of good reviews about the smurfields (personal reviews from people running them, not reviews in some rag). Longfields seem to be about the best thing out there right now. Can't argue with the performance:cost of the smurfs though.
