Hi Brian -- Yeah, I saw that you had asked about progress in another thread so I thought I'd post a little update.

I'll be (hopefully) pursuing a master's in architecture (and possibly getting another MS along the way in sustainable design, unless someone talks some sense into me ).

Sustainable design makes a lot of sense to me. That's like green buildings utilizing solar and geothermal heat pumps and such, as opposed to petroleum based energy, correct? There is a fun video on youtube:

She wrote to yahoo groups wastewatts:
- I created this six-minute
video on You Tube to show the installation of my geothermal
waterfurnace. In terms of emissions, it's the equivalent of taking
two cars off the road forever. It might be a realistic alternative
for those of you who have some land. It pays for itself and it is
reliable. Thanks for looking -

It's pretty neat, Ive seen this done using the stable temperature from a pond.

Yep, that's a big part of it. It also deals in building lifecycles - minimizing waste during construction, trying to build structures that can be disassembled and recycled rather than landfilled. Another component is trying to use materials that are produced using environmentally responsible means. I will check that video when I get home, thanks.

Just when you thought I'd given up... new posts on the blog. I will try and get another posted tomorrow detailing the fuel tank installation, which was quite a lot of work.

As promised, another new set of posts on the fuel tank.

The Trooper now runs from its own fuel tank again, not from a can on the fender, which feels like real progress. I also connected the brake booster and tried my new brakes - they work perfectly.

Had a bit of a scare last night, though. While filling the cooling system with water I noticed a water leak from the engine, one which I had not seen before. Investigation revealed it to be coming from a frost plug. I had drained the system last fall but not the block, and apparently there was enough water in there to pop the plug halfway out during the winter! I used a long socket extension to tap it back in and no more leaking, but I am wondering whether I caused any more damage... time will tell, I guess.

It started running a little rough after a few minutes, which I think is the remainder of the bad fuel in the lines clogging my filter. I will replace it and see how it goes.

Hey all --

Two years (even a little more!) since I posted last in this thread. Time flies when you're a student again; that, coupled with the birth of our son has kept me away from the garage for the most part.

However, I am getting back in action, as I would like to have the Trooper on the road by Labor Day. Possible? We shall see.

I got all the metalwork on the front of the hood finished. It doesn't look that great, but it's solid, and my first attempt at rust repair. I will add a little filler and call it good enough.

Next, the hood scoop will be added, looking at this coming weekend to have that completed. Stay tuned for updates and photos.

Encouragement appreciated, of course!

p.s. Paul, did you ever get your Trooper on the road?

p.p.s. I think we ought to start a parts sources thread for import diesels, things like oil filters, timing belts, etc.
