Getting the Wheeling Fever

Everytime I plug one up another one springs up.
This last one is irritating. Thermostat housing. Replaced the thermo and gasket Saturday. Thought that took care of it but today its leaking again. Is there anything tricky about that housing? the two housing bolt were darn rusty. I cleaned them up and chased the bolt holes.
Tips? Thanks

Which engine are you referring to? Cant offer Jack on the V6s, but on the 22R-Es I always use a sanding block on the mating surface of the t-stat housing/water outlet. If anything looks screwy on the intake manifold side...I do similar to it. If you have the 22R-E verify that its the water outlet leaking and not the coolant bypass hose that is routed around to the Throttle Body.

If its not the hose, then check around the base of the nipple behind the T-stat where the hose is connected. Some of the earlier intake manifolds used a press in fitting while later they were threaded. Could be spitting up there.

could also be the mating between the upper radiator hose and the t-stat housing...mine's leaking there...just a little bit (like maybe a teaspoon a day), but it blows the steamified coolant onto the t-stat housing then, when the truck sits, it cools and wicks down the housing pas where the housing and water outlet pipe (or whatever the proper terms are) mate. thus, it could easily be mistaken for coming from that juncture.
in my case, the t-stat housing is just so pitted that even a brand new hose and cranked down screw-type clamp won't completely seal it.
one of these days imma gonna get around to fixin' it <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
"pesky" is certainly the appropriate term...<img src="/forums/images/graemlins/angry.gif" alt="" />

oh, btw...leak after leak springing up can be an indication that your radiator cap isn't working properly...
it's suppose to open after the pressure in the cooling system gets too high to allow coolant into the overflow tank to relieve some of the pressure. if it's not opening, that coolant will find the weakest link in the system and escape there.
a rough way to tell if it is working is to just check the level of the coolant in the overflow tank when cold...then get the engine good and hot...there should be a good bit more coolant in the overflow tank. if there is not, the cap is toast or the line elading to the tank is clogged or something along those lines.
