Which engine are you referring to? Cant offer Jack on the V6s, but on the 22R-Es I always use a sanding block on the mating surface of the t-stat housing/water outlet. If anything looks screwy on the intake manifold side...I do similar to it. If you have the 22R-E verify that its the water outlet leaking and not the coolant bypass hose that is routed around to the Throttle Body.
