i know that on the yota 5-spd the reverse gear is the weak link in the tranny's. i know that it is also a forward cut gear so it tends to be weaker and it binds.

now i have a little grinding when i down shift in to second mostly and this is at almost all speeds faster than 25 on the speedo. it never used to do it when i got the truck 10,000 miles ago?. and i have found that normal shifting in to 2,3,4 is gettin a little more effort needed, they dont grind unless i really jam it fast but mainly it has started since i put the new clutch in and all my adjustments are in spec. so im just hoppin it has been just a lazy foot and i dont know it? well i will try to more consiously pushing my foot all the way to the floor to see if that helps, and shift slower. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/shiner.gif" alt="" />

I have the same problems with mine. Problems going into reverse, just hit 4th and it goes right in. Grinds trying to down shift into 2nd. Mine started after the truck sat for 4 months. I'm going to try syn tranny fluid and see if that helps.

How much rotational play is supposed to be in the flanges on the transfer case and 3rd member i.e. driveshaft. Mine can rotate about 1/2" in both directions. to make it a little clearer. If I grab the drive shaft I can rotate it clockwise and counter-clockwise. Is that normal? Just wondering if that is causing the problem.
