Did the swap today. Very frustrated. <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> It'sitting about 3 inches lower in the rear now...looks like I'm driving a pre-runner. My headlights are pointed up. My rear shocks are now too long. The spring is only a half inch from the stock hanger. "Torch it off" you'll say. Well, dammit, I'm outa oxygen, plus the friggin' gas tank is RIGHT THERE. Sure, I can put in an AAL, but that means taking the whole thing apart again.

How did those of you deal who've done it deal with this stuff? I researched it, read the PBB FAQ over and over, got the right parts...I guess what gets me the most is that you can never do a mod or fix a problem without causing another one.

OK, vent/rant over.

Jeff

I don't understand what you mean by that. You did move your stock front hanger back 11" right? What shackle setup are you using? How many leafs are in the pack? How much lift did you end up with?

the new hanger (budbuilt) is 11 inches forward. It's a 3 leaf pack with an overload. I have a 9.5" eye to eye shackle in the stock hanger.

What I should have said is that the spring clamp is a half inch from the stock spring hanger. As in, half inch below. Any uptravel and it hits.

Just bend it open more, that seems to be the popular thing to do for people that don't torch it off. Shackle sounds like it might be a problem too, most of 'em I've seen either use a double shackle bolted to the stock location or a new shackle mount that's moved back.

About the shackle...I did a poll on PBB. There are more guys running a long shackle in the stock hanger than anything else. That's why I went that way.

I already took off the rear spring clamp. Prolly do the front ones too and put on an aftermarket clamp in a different spot.

Were you running lift blocks with the stock springs? If so, you need them with the chevy swap. In my experience, the chevy springs don't provide any lift, only more wheel travel and generally a softer ride.

I ended up getting about 2"-2.5" out of my chevy leaf swap. My stock hangers are definetely in the way too, I plan on taking the cutoff wheel to them when I get the chance. I have an 89 so my spring hangers are different, but I put mine ezzactly 9.5" forward, center-to-center.

My shackle... I'm running the double shackle setup, a set of Roger Brown's (4crawler) extended shackles,+2", that're 5.5" hole center-to-center if i remember correctly. Then the Stock chebby's attached. Stock rear hangers.

My rim to fender is about 19.5" I think, I've got a 3" bl.

What did you have in before?

Snowtoy, I left the two inch blocks in.

Chris, I dinna have a BL, and I'm with you on the cutoff wheel.

I guess I'm a little lucky in that my front shocks are a little short...I'm gonna swap 'em out, front to back and back to front.
