has anyone cut the cab part roof off a gen1 4runner?
i am thinking of useing a kit that was intended for mimitrucks to be a hadtop convertable

1984 - 1988 TOYOTA PICKUP CONVERTIBLES RATICAL HARDTOP KIT
Cab: XCAB $399.00
SKU#: RAT-TO8488KK

i think it woulod be nice to be able to take the whole top off. it gives me three choices of toplessness! (is that a word?) that and a nice set of half doors would be vary nice
it should work right? [Linked Image]

what you may end up losing is any kind of strength and ridgity . my buddy did that type of top on his lowrider mini toyota , looked good , but with out anything to brace it in the back i tihnk youd lose the strength.

have an extra body laying around you could try it on ?

if it was me, id do it, but put a bar or something behind your head just to give it some support, and give you something to mount your rack to

It would be killer to do, but I wouldnt do it without a full interior roll cage. If you were to flip the truck over you would die!

chuckelbarry, I did it to a CJ-5. I've been a Yota driver ever since! I wish I had pics to post. Went over and over 8 times down a hill. It sucked! Thank god for the roll cage! Looks like you could used one!

Cool idea...definitly would put a full cage in though. All Pro has one, but their pretty proud of it: ($399) I think.

Did a similar roll in my 72 cruiser few years back (3 times side over side and 2 times end over end), and the 6 point cage saved my life. Cheap life insurance.

Wonder if it would leak?

Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did.
