Yup, it is a flanged seal that installs from the outside.

Roll Me Over
If you are talking about the front input seal yes it's easy enough to change. Just pull the tranny and take the clutch fork off. Then the front cover needs to come off of the inside of the bellhousing. There should be about 5 or 6 12mm bolts holding the cover on. Now on the inside of the front cover is the seal that needs replaced. My seal looked pretty good, it was the front cover that needed re-blue-glued. It seems as if the cover itself was actually what was leaking.

Joe, I am really scratching my head here. I could *swear* the front output seal is installed from the outside of the case (i.e. you don't have to crack the case to replace it), but it has been a few years since I have had to mess with it.

As far as resealing the case, for anyone reading, throw away that awful blue silicone sealant. It is made by the devil. I am a reformed blue goo user and I have been blue goo free for several years. Get the grey, it is much better, it sticks better and it does not have quite the tendency to squeeze out and then peel off and then cause havoc in other locations.

Good Luck,
Michael

Better yet, read the specs and use the right goo.... there are form-in-place, cure-in-place, and anaerobic gasketing compounds and gasket-dressing agents as well as bonding, threadlocking, and threadsealing unguents.

OK guys, now you are threadjacking and getting off topic here. Save the playful MOAB banter for the other thread

The seal I am talking about is on the front of the tcase, not the tranny. I think that just pulling the driveshaft (front one) should allow me access to that seal. As for the blue/gray/red/orange/purple goo, I guess I will have to figure that out when I get there.

Any other input is appreciated from those experienced. And thanks for the info so far

yeah. its easy to get to. If that is where its leaking, then maybe we can both do them at the same time. I have to do the same thing. I had the front output out when I did my 3.07's. It realy is pretty easy. I had to heat up one of my front drive shaft bolts to get it loose. Thats when I think I fried it. You just unbolt the drive shaft, take out the nut, take off the flange, take out the bad seal. Then replace the seal, and repeat steps in reverse. And here's a for the .

So is this seal a dealer part, or can I get one at a local parts house???? I am almost sure that is where it is leaking from, but when I am on the road, it get's oil everywhere, so it is hard to tell.

I figure it can't hurt to change it anyway, and if it still leaks, I will deal with the only other place it can be leaking from.
