Painless wiring has come up with transplant harnesses for many motors including the 4.3L in its many forms. It uses the stock ECU and if you want to use the newer Vats ECUs with your Vortec, they have a Vats diable module. Plug and play.

If you put a GM engine, you have a few tranny options and t case options available. Sure you could get custom adapters for the mitsu engine, but it would cost you out the ***.

Lets play water pump goes out scenario.... Mine costs 13 dollars, and can be fixed with a 9/16ths wrench in about 30 minutes.
3.5? hahah not.
I'll replace 10 water pumps, and be happy about it.
How about a total rebuild? ouch on that 3.5.... better off getting some used 90k one, and selling your truck.
I better go get my butterfly valve recall fixed.. ohh nevermind...... this motor does not have the self destruct recalls in effect...IE crank bolt, and butterfly valve
For ME, it was about Performance and longevity for the $.
I could have put a vortec 350 in there(which will be next). same deal there. cheap, and easy to maintain.

My 4.3 has nothing whatsoever to do with reliabilty, durability, or whatever. It is because I now have gearing options.....and in fact already have a 4:1 low range transfer case, with twin stick, 4.88 diff gears, and an 800 rpm stall torque converter! Try doing THAT with a Mitsu set-up! Not gonna happen. Of course mine will never see the streets again.....but I prefer it that way!
Two MRI's and a CAT scan....it's confirmed. I'm just not right in the head.

For anyone interested, I still have the tranny-transfer setup out of my late 4.3 Gen1:
Borg Warner T5 gearbox, mated to a Mitsu transfer case out of a 1989 2.5TD (auto). Gearbox is bolt-on for the right Chevy bell-housing (S10). Bolts staright onto Misu cross-member.
Make me an offer, remember shipping is from South Africa.
Damn, I miss that 4.3!

A stock TH350 converter is about a 1500 rpm stall, I went with a lower one. Now I'll need to do some brake work too.
