As for parts, I have recently rebuilt my 22RE and added a new clutch with many parts from http://all-foreign.com, whose customer service and pricing for OEM or better parts is unmatched. They sale the same timing chain kit that LC Engineering does at half the cost with metal guides. For OEM, you may check with them, I believe the whole clutch kit was $100 to $130 shipped.

For daily use and midlevel off-roading, I believe the factory clutch is very good.

Ease of work is not too bad if you have help or a transmission jack. My brother and I pulled my transmission and transfer case (bolted together) without much difficulty. I found ratchet straps and a regular floor jack to be very helpful. The ratchet straps are great because you can use them to support most of the trans and still wiggle it around so bolt holes and dowl pins line up.
