LOL- you are talking AC, and where I live it was snowing yesterday the 134 is a bit less cool than 12, in every case I have seen. This all reminds me, I have to fix my line leak. It may hit 70 this month

I just converted last week. I live in HOT Arizona, USA (summers average from 105 degrees to 115 degrees) and the conversion works great! Cool-down starts immediately after turning system to on. I'll put a thermo on it to actually see what the true temp is at the vent and repost. To help matters (beating the Damn Heat) I tinted all the windows (excluding the windshield) with dark limo tint! Keep in touch!

If anyone wants a 'blow by blow' posting on how to R&R the evap in a Gen 2, along with part numbers and O-ring and hardware listings, let me know and I'll write up a service/job description for the board. I used no air tools, took my time, and put the system under a vacuum for 25 minutes since it had been leaking for so long and was now also open to outside air with the repair work. Total time was 2 1/2 hours, start to finish.

Blow by blow please including any pictures, illustrations, etc. My new red SWB has AC but no longer cools. Need to fix (if required) and refill mine before the summer heat. I read that R-12's no longer available so will need to do the r-134 conversion.

TIA.

R-12 is still available, just not at all cheap. It could be a regional issue, I don't know what CA is up to.

Yeah, I'm not sure if CA even allows consumers much less shops to use R12 anymore.

I'm thinking of having it fully checked anyways. Has an unknown history and I'd hate to spend money on freon only to learn that there's a leak in the system.

I've been told three times now by people who ought to know and have done it that you can put r134 in on top of r12.

Last prices I saw on who knows how good r12 was about 15-20 bucks per pound, and mostly toward 20.

I could but the cost of gas would be more than having a dealership do the work.

Yeah when we are doing older sealed system repairs we run 134 for as a direct replacement for 12.We have been instructed by the factory to do so for about a year now. With no troubles reported as of yet.We just top them off with the 134 since the other is getting so expensive.
