Getting the Wheeling Fever
Over the last couple of months I have noticed that the front end and steering wheel will periodically shimmy/bounce at freeway speeds (55-65 mph). I had it aligned six or eight months ago and they said all the steering/suspension components looked/felt good. I am assuming it is in need of shocks since it has been many years since they were replaced.

I use it mostly on the street with occasional logging road/off highway use. I do use it to haul some moderate loads sometimes as well as towing moderate loads (2600lbs).

What would be a good shock to go with for these conditions? Since I got the 2001 Trooper the towing duties of this one should be reduced but it will still be used to haul stuff (yard stuff, auto stuff, home maintenance stuff, etc.) I like a moderately firm ride. Not too soft. It is still a truck after all! Any suggestions?

I have ProComps (See Sig) and I love 'em. Prrice was right also because I was on a budget at the time.

They do have an upgrade for when you will be towing loads, but I dont see the need for those in your setup.

You can find the ProComps for a great price too, they also have many options for boot colors I am buying mine from jackit.com along with shackles and bushings..

I will check out the ProComps. I see many people seem to like the Rancho, OME and Calmini shocks as well. Would these be overkill? I don't want to get crazy expensive, but I do want them to last.

I've got Gabriel's on my '89 and they are great.
I think I paid $20/each for them at PepBoys and they have a lifetime warranty. Been mudding with them a couple of times and they did fine.
They ride great on the road also.

I have ProComp ES9000's, some people say they are too stiff but I think they are just peachy. if you keep your eyes open, 4WP frequently runs a 'buy 3 get 1 free' promo, plus free shipping. I forgot what the total was for my set, but it was a great deal.

Body Damage is Cool
I bought procomp ES3000's because they were cheap. I call them stiff in combination with coils that you don't have in the back of an amigo which you don't have. The bushings blew out on both of them in less than 2 years with average on road miles and a decent amount of off road time.

Just put on Bilsteins and they feel pretty good to start. No doubt they are more pricey How they hold up, we'll see.
YMMV

If not the shocks, check the upper control arm bushings. I had to replace mine.

What shocks do you run on your Trooper? Have you done the leaf over axle flip? Thanks for the link to your pictures I enjoyed them.
