I've done the GM 10 bolt to the D44 swap as well. Was relatively cheap, less than $300 for all new parts including a rear out of a 97 rodeo. I wanted to go to disc brakes all around, but I couldnt find an axle locally that was out or at a reasonable price, so I got a 2wd rear out of a 4 cyl rodeo that was the same 4.56 gearing I had. I would try to avoid locking the gm 10 bolt, and instead do a swap and lock a 44 instead, you get more options for lockers, LSDs, and gear ratios, as well as a stouter axle and cheaper lockers. The whole swap took me and my friend less than 8 hours to do, (lots of screwing around). Im sure if you did a search on here, you could find my thread about the ordeal, should have lots of info in there about axle choices. And almost of the stock isuzu axles, as long as they were leaf sprung, should bolt in. Even the rear abs sensor on the new axle plugged into the old socket.
