Getting the Wheeling Fever
Its a 90 v6 auto. This truck has option code 9JV, which is factory 31/10.50 tires. With this code does it mean the truck has 4.77 gears. I know the factory code for this ratio is 6N7 or 6NZ.
Which is not on the plate. The ITOG site shows only 6NZ which is highlited in blue, that according to them means it may not be listed on the plate. There is no mention of 6N7 on the ITOG site. Does anyone know the ring count, I have a ring out of a 91 2.6 p/u that has 41 teeth. What ratio would that be. I have read several of the post on the wire refering(sp) to these gears and it seems there is quite a mystery on which truck got these gears. Per the option code would this reflect honeycombs or just 31/10.50's on different rims. The truck was purchased with honeycombs from an older gentlemen. thanks

Hi tinytrooper the 6n7 means the truck came with the big tire package and the 9jv means of course the 10.50.15 tires which should have came on this truck with the sno flake wheels, so it looks like you got the 4.77, the pickups never came with the 4.77 , if they had the big tire package they would have came with 4.56 instead of 4.30,,only in 4wd , the 2wd came with 4.11 either automatic or 5 spd 2.6 only , the few 3.1 v6 pickups that came with the big tire package came with 4.56 also Jerry

There is no 6n7 code on the plate. Just the 9JV. I was only making a ref. to the ring gear out of a p/u that I had. So due to the 9JV code this truck should have 4.77 correct?

do like I did, jack up the rear end, support it on jackstands, get under there and count revolutions. That's the only way I was able to be completely sure I have 4.77 gears, since so much of the info on them seems "mystical" <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/kewl.gif" alt="" />

I think you can be reasonbly certain that your truck has 4.77's. All trucks that I have ever heard about that had the wide tire option(9JV) also came with the lower gears(4.77). Lucky dog!! <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/notooth.gif" alt="" />
