I am working on building a, what i belive to be a cat back system, out of 304 stainless. I have all the bends for it just need to get a few feet of straight pipe. I am going with 2.25. Just my choice I know some want to go to the 2.5. Best bet if you have someone build one is that you make sure all of your bends are mandrel and not pressed. The smoother the turns the better. also have them avoid any hard turn, that only builds heat and in turn loses performance.
