That's an incredible car!
You mention buying the car at an auction. Mind if I ask how much you laid out for it? I like to have an idea what to look for if I ever trade up from Gen I.
Looks like you are having a lot of fun with the kids. Love those photos! What's the story behind the pictures?
I won the auction for $6400, in FL. I actually had it in the low 5's when somebody bid me by $1200 at the last minute.
However, I did NOT notice the smoking valve seal problem until the first long idle at a fuel station, 300 miles away.
After some negotiation, I got the dealer to refund me $1400, despite the fact it was an "AS-IS" sale. I opted to do the work myself so as to save on the labor and use the rest of the $$$ to buy xtra parts while I had it opened up.
So my $6400 (+ labor time) got me:
- a '95 SR with all the goodies (power, CD, locker, sunroof, etc..)
- new valve seals
- new timing belt/tensioner/pulleys
- new sparkplugs & wires
- replacement lower plenum
- new water pump
- new thermostat
- gaskets for all of the above (incl rocker covers, etc..)
So... despite an adventure that more than doubled my anticipated labor time, I hope the rig is pretty set for now.
(On Edit:)
Oh, and as for the wheeling... this is in Northern Virginia in the George Washington National forest, off of some of their fire trails. We have a group camp trip every spring and fall, and that was some of the pics we had on our recent outing at the beginning of May.
There are more of other pics at
My Website. (I'm driving an F350 diesel in those... a bit different to wheel in. )
