im not as stupid as everyone thinks. on my bmw and my work truck I hear the fan and then I dont. I know it is always spinning but it doesnt scream like a banshee like my rodeo's always does. I am saying if the temp of the t-stat is to high then the fan will be wailing all the time. (fully engaged)

That feels kinda harsh -- it is tough to really read on the internet.

You're right that if the thermostat is WAY off, the fan could be running all the time, and the other fellas are right that they are pretty much wholly separate systems.

The systems are related to some extent, connected by the relationship between air temp in the space behind the radiator and in front of the block, the general heat-shedding capacity of the motor forward to the space behind the fan clutch, and the heat shed first by the block into the coolant, then from the coolant into the radiator, and lastly from the radiator back into the space in front of the fan clutch.

It seems like the thermostat would have to be WAY off to force the fan clutch to lock full time... how hot is that motor running?
