This question is for my 1994 Trooper 5 speed ...
Without warning (usually after making a turn) it makes an awful grinding sound as if you were trying to engage the 4wd while moving--the vehicle slows a little, and the steering shakes a little...I know this sounds strange...The 4wd works fine--it engages quickly, and disengages when you back up a few feet..
I disassembled both front hubs and they look fine--no visible signs of wear or metal shavings! The brake rotors and pads are fine. The lower ball joints boots are cracked and I'm sure need to be replaced.
Has anyone else had this happen??? <img src="/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />
